Premiere: Wata Igarashi ‘Minerał’

Wata Igarashi is set to release a new single, ‘Minerał’, via Houndstooth. Have an exclusive first listen below.

Out tomorrow (30th January), the track features on ‘Quantum Sound’, a new compilation from Houndstooth in collaboration with co-founders LWE and London sound studio Mastery. The unique project combines sound meditation and breathwork, with ambient electronic compositions from some of the scene’s buzziest names.

Set for release in full on 12th February, ‘Quantum Sound’ features tracks from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Hannah Holland, Manami, Jennifer Loveless, Silent Shadow, Alessandro Cortini, and Wata Igarashi, who swaps psychedelic techno for shimmering ambient on ‘Mineral’, premiering below.

“‘Mineral’ was not written in a conventional way,” Igarashi explained. “During Covid, I released a series of ambient works in progress, one of which inspired a close friend, an artisanal perfumer, to create a fragrance based on the music, and experiencing it guided me to compose again, letting scent shape the atmosphere and emotional direction of the piece, with the extended duration allowing those feelings to unfold naturally over time.

“Rooted in nature and transformation, ‘Mineral’ later became a reference for the space I envisioned for Mastery presents Quantum Sound Meditation at Glastonbury, and I am grateful it now appears in its fully mastered form on the Mastery ‘Quantum Sound’ album.”

‘Quantum Sound’ is out 12th February via Houndstooth. Pre-save the album here, and have an exclusive first listen to Wata Igarashi’s ‘Minerał’ below.
