Premiere: Scuba ‘Animatronic’

Premiere: Scuba ‘Animatronic’

Hotflush boss Scuba is set to release a new two-tracker, ‘Animatronic’, later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.

Landing tomorrow (16th May), the project marks Scuba’s first release of 2025 – and first ever on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth label – with Scuba crediting the legendary label boss as having played a key role in his move into house and techno from his bass music/dubstep roots. The title track, ‘Animatronic’, has been an exclusive mystery staple in Scuba’s recent DJ sets, flaunting mid-tempo grooves alongside cavernous, modulating synths and cherubic vocal licks.

On the flip is ‘Waterfloor’ – a “subtle tribute” to Berlin’s recently shuttered Watergate club – which tempers its similarly serene atmospheres with ocean-deep basslines.

‘Animatronic’ marks a significant departure from the raved-up hardcore and breakbeat of Scuba’s latest album, ‘Digital Underground’, released in late 2023. The previous year, Scuba launched his Music Not Diving podcast, featuring in-depth interviews with key players in electronic music. Recent guests include Tim Reaper, Richard Fearless and Emma Marshall.

‘Animatronic’ lands 16th May via Last Night On Earth. Pre-save the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
