Premiere: Sakura Tsuruta ‘Obsidian’

Sakura Tsuruta will release her new EP, ‘GEMZ’, next week via All My Thoughts. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Obsidian’ below.

Set for release on 26th November, the project follows the Japanese DJ and producer’s sprawling debut album, ‘C / O’, originally released in 2022 and reissued in 2023. This time around, Tsuruta finds inspiration in the “luminous beauty and symbolic depth of gemstones”, using intricate textures, flowering modulations and punchy beats to construct eight colourful collages of sound.

‘Obsidian’ is the project at its most tactile, with scrambled synths and pointillistic rhythms tethered to an unrelenting percussive core, whilst cuts like ‘Twilight’ and ‘Lapis Lazuli’ invite total immersion through gleaming pads and spacey ambient soundscapes. Truly stunning stuff.
