Premiere: Nectax ‘Body Talk’

DJ Flight has announced the re-launch of her label play:musik with a four-track EP from Nectax. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Body Talk’ below.

Founded by the d&b trailblazer in 2005, play:musik helped launch the careers of Martyn, Heist and more, before going on hiatus in 2014. Now, DJ Flight is rebooting the revered label with a suite of bass-heavy rave slammers from Nectax, the Geordie junglist who has been making waves with releases for Motive Hunter Audio, Over/Shadow and Newcastle’s STEREO 45.

Tapping into the same insatiable energy as play:musik releases gone by, Nectax needles punchy amen breaks, driving basslines and his trademark air-tight percussion into four cuts of fiercely future-facing drum & bass, primed to usher the label into its next phase.

Speaking to DJ Mag, Flight shared: “I’m so excited to relaunch play after such a long time. Every so often people asked when it’s coming back, but it never felt like the right time – until now. I’m overly happy with how Nectax’s release turned out sonically and visually (shouts to Bob Macc and Andreas Brooks), there is so much great music around, and my profile is in a good place… I’m just really enjoying and feeling grateful for where I am currently.”

‘Body Talk’ will mark the first release on play:musik in 14 years, following a double-single from L.I.S back in 2010. Other key releases include Martyn’s 2005 two-tracker, ‘Nxt 2 U / Deepwood’, Heist’s ‘Shut Down / Why Do You Hurt Me?’ (2006) and ‘Fallen Angels / No Love’ from Visionary in 2007.

A legend in the UK’s d&b scene, DJ Flight scooped up the Outstanding Contribution award at DJ Mag’s Best of British awards in 2022.

‘Body Talk’ is out Friday 26th July via play:musik. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
