Premiere: Carré ‘Meltdown’
Carré will release a new EP, ‘Meltdown’, via EMA’s Woozy label this month. Listen to the title track below.
Set to land on 27th June, the five-track vinyl outing comprises three original cuts, plus remixes from Exit Records don dBridge and NVST. Following releases on labels like Tempa, Darwin’s SPE:C and her own Fast At Work, Carré’s arrival on Woozy feels like a match made in sub-bass heaven — both she and the Dublin imprint are at the frontline of dubstep’s intercontinental modern movement, championing fresh takes and reconfigurations of the form while drinking deep from the sound system source.
‘Meltdown’ is a case in point, its half-time shuffle and swing working in fail-safe unison with warm bass throbs, but reaching further toward the cosmos with echoing vocal trills and chrome-plated dub synths. dBridge ups the tempo for an autonomic drum & bass rework, before ‘Crawler’ splices razor sharp 2-step stutters into the mix.
‘Season Seven’ is a velvety slice of future-facing dubstep at its most sophisticated, which NVST promptly rips up with industrial clatter and distortion on her pace-quickening “old school” mix.
Speaking about the title track, which DJ Mag is premiering below, Carré said: “I wrote it exactly a year ago after diving deep into System Music and V.I.V.E.K’s back catalogue. The mood of those tracks really inspired me. This point in time ended up being a surprise start of an extremely transitional phase of my life, hence the track name.”
Pre-order ‘Meltdown’ on vinyl and digital via Woozy’s Bandcamp.
