Philipp Jung, Get Physical Music and M.A.N.D.Y Co-Founder, Dies Aged 55
Philipp Jung, the German DJ and producer who helped shape the trajectory of house music through the 2000s and beyond as a co-founder of the electronic music label Get Physical Music, has died. He was 55.
According to Electronic Groove, a source close to Jung confirmed that the artist, who formed one half of the influential duo M.A.N.D.Y, has passed away. At the time of writing, no cause of death has been disclosed.
A prominent fixture in the DJ circuit since the 1990s, Jung initially established himself through A&R roles at major labels. In 2002, he joined forces with Patrick Bodmer to form M.A.N.D.Y. Together, they developed a signature take on house music that was as melodic and deep as it was tactile and tough. This unique sound became the cornerstone of Get Physical Music, the label they co-founded that same year alongside DJ T. and Booka Shade.
The imprint quickly rose to prominence, earning DJ Mag’s Label of the Year award in 2005, largely driven by the success of M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade’s ‘Body Language’. The track became one of the defining dancefloor anthems of the era, cementing the label’s status as a powerhouse in the global dance scene. Get Physical Music went on to champion a diverse roster of artists, including Audiofly, Damian Lazarus, John Tejada, Kevin Over, WhoMadeWho, and Emanuel Satie.
Beyond his work with the main label, Jung founded the sister imprints Kindisch and Metaphysical, which focused on more freeform, experimental, and album-oriented projects. As recently as March 2026, Jung curated the compilation ‘Rewind Forward Vol. 1’ for Get Physical Music, celebrating the label’s extensive catalogue.
Reflecting on his career in an Instagram post this past April, Jung wrote: “After 25 years of doing this, I honestly feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. There’s still so much to discover, explore, re-release, and remix. And of course, to find new talent — the next generation stepping up. This is still my life and my greatest passion.”
Tributes have begun to pour in from across the industry. A GoFundMe has been established to support Jung’s family during this difficult time.
