Paul van Dyk exhibits Roland TR-808 played on ‘For An Angel’ at Synthesizer Museum Berlin
Paul van Dyk is exhibiting his Roland TR-808 at the Synthesizer Museum Berlin. It will remain on display until next year.
The iconic drum machine, which is ubiquitous within electronic and dance music culture, was used by van Dyk on a number of his tracks. These include his 1994 anthem, ‘For An Angel‘, and its subsequent 1998 ‘E-Work Remix’, named after the landmark Berlin club where the artist held an early residency.
“This Roland 808 has been with me since the early days; it’s more than just a machine, it’s a part of my musical journey,” said van Dyk. “From ‘For An Angel’ to countless other tracks, its beat helped shape my sound. I’m proud to lend it to Synthesizer Museum Berlin, where it can inspire the next generation of producers just like it inspired me.”
Last year, Roland unveiled a TR-808 collaborative trainer with sports giant New Balance in celebration of 808 Day, which is marked annually on 8th August.
In 2023, DJ Mag published a long read on the synthesiser and drum machine company’s 50 year legacy, and its impact on the development of house, techno, and other dance music genres.
