Overmono reimagine High Contrast’s ‘If We Ever’: Listen

Overmono have shared their long-awaited edit of High Contrast’s ‘If We Ever’.

Brothers Tom and Ed Russell first played their breaks-heavy re-interpretation of the track when they headlined this year’s Love Saves The Day. It later went viral when they played it on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury this year. Since then, they’ve been inundated with comments on social media from fans demanding an official release.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1 when the track was premiered earlier this week, the pair said: “High Contrast used to work in this record shop in Cardiff called Catapult Records. We lived on the other side of the city, but Tom would go and buy records from him there all the time. I’m pretty sure it was the first record shop I went to after I bought Tom a voucher for his birthday one year. ‘Tough Guys Can’t Dance’ was one of those records that was just everywhere, we were all battering it, and ‘If We Ever’ was the anthem. Ahead of summer this year, we started working on our own version of ‘If We Ever’ just for fun, but the reaction was so wild, we ended up playing it in every set.”

Overmono have priors in the edits department. Last year’s remix of ‘Turn The Page’ by The Streets remains a favourite on dancefloors, while their collaborative remix of Kwengface’s ‘Freedom’ alongside Joy O helped solidify UK drill’s potential for club crossovers.

In June, they reunited with Joy O for ‘Lippy‘, which also featured Montreal rapper Skiifall.
