Overmono Announce New Album ‘Pure Devotion’ and Share Lead Single ‘Lockup’

Electronic music heavyweights Overmono have officially announced their highly anticipated second studio album, Pure Devotion, set for release on 7th August. The announcement comes alongside the unveiling of the project’s lead single, ‘Lockup’, which is available to stream now.

Brothers Tom and Ed Russell, the duo behind the project, have drawn inspiration for the album’s title from their recent live show series, which first launched in 2024. The 11-track record, released via XL Recordings, promises a diverse sonic landscape featuring collaborations with poet John Joseph Holt, Kindora, Ruthven, and Rock Floyd.

In a press statement, the duo explained their creative process for the new record: “With this album we wanted to try to make something that captured the physical space of our studios. Setting up loads of ways of processing, recording, re-amping sounds… The vocal isn’t sitting quite right? Let’s track it through an old Tannoy speaker in the basement. That synth needs to twang harder? Let’s play it through an old train station announcement speaker from the 1930’s.”

The brothers further detailed their experimental approach to sound design, noting, “We ran tape over magnets, blew up some speakers and finally utilised that dirt cheap overclocked fx unit we snaffled years ago in Bromley. We even oven baked a cymbal covered in coffee grounds, crisps and vinegar.”

The release of Pure Devotion coincides with a significant milestone for the duo, as they are scheduled to perform a sold-out headline show at the Old Royal Naval College in London as part of Labyrinth’s open-air series. This upcoming project follows their acclaimed 2023 debut LP, Pure Lies, and continues their prolific streak of releases, including 2025 singles ‘Paradise Runner’ and ‘Lippy’.
