Nyege Nyege Festival announces new location for 2025 festival

Nyege Nyege Festival has announced the first details of its 2025 edition, including a brand new location.

The revered East African electronic music event will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 20th to 23rd November at Kalagala Falls on the Nile, Uganda.

The venue itself is a community-held cultural site, home to sacred trees and ancient ancestral gathering spaces. The location is around 20 minutes from Jinja Town, close to the festival’s previous home, around two-and-a-half hour’s drive from Kampala, and six from Nairobi, capital of neighbouring Kenya.

2025’s edition centres on the theme of Ekigunda Ky’omuliro, or The Gathering Of The Flame. No line-up has been confirmed at the time of writing, but organisers have revealed plans for six “immersive stages”, a dedicated film screening area, adventure and discovery packages encouraging attendees to explore the surrounding countryside.

“This year, we celebrate a decade of journeys — honoring our past and envisioning the future. By inaugurating a home for the next ten years, we celebrate what makes Nyege Nyege truly unique; the music, the people, the vibe, the nature, and the community that carries it all,” said a spokesperson for Nyege Nyege.

“What started as an underground gathering on the banks of the Nile has grown into a global movement — a sanctuary for alternative African music, radical creativity, and communal joy,” they continued. “Over the past 10 years, Nyege Nyege has connected thousands of artists, dancers, and dreamers across continents, while shaping a unique cultural ecosystem in Uganda and beyond. This tenth edition is not only a celebration of how far we’ve come — it is a bold declaration of where we’re going.”

Last week, the Ugandan government released an analysis of the economic benefits Nyege Nyege brings to the local community and Uganda as a whole. The assessment claims the event brought in more than $2 million in 2024 alone.

Registration for 2025 pre-sale is now live

Among the names on 2024’s line-up up were UK-based artists like Tash LC, Jamz Supernova, Acid Pauli, Nkisi and Mina & Bryte, as well as figures affiliated with the Nyege Nyege Tapes and Hakuna Kulala labels, such as Kampire, DJ Travella, DJ Diaki, Authentically Plastic, Chrisman and Judgitzu.
