Novation’s classic Bass Station synth is getting an official plug-in emulation
Novation’s classic Bass Station synth is back in the form of an official plug-in emulation from software developers, GForce.
The plug is said to create an “exact emulation of the original Bass Station” in software form and honours the original in its sound. The soft synth emulation also adds some extra modern features you might expect from a recent plug-in including 16-voice polyphony, unison mode, a high-pass filter, a new sequencer and arp mode and a randomisation tool to randomise all the synth’s parameters. Elsewhere, GForce’s own X-Modifier technology means that all parameters are modulatable, “without having to set up modulation paths”.
The plug also adds FX like delay, reverb, chorus, distortion and more. 300 presets are included to get you started with the Bass Station. The plug costs £49, rising to £99 later — owners of the LaunchKey 4, FLkey and SL Mk3 hardware from Novation will get the plug-in for free.
The Bass Station was popular back in the mid-’90s for its powerful low-end and affordable price tag, making it a go-to synth for electronic music producers. The monophonic original was used by the likes of Apollo 440 and RZA, and became a staple of many bedroom studios throughout the ’90s and early ’00s.
