Channel 4 is set to air a one-off documentary about women in hip-hop.

‘Queens Of Rap’ will focus on the evolution of women in the genre through the lens of ‘WAP’, Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s 2020 hit single. Award-winning podcaster and investigative journalist Poppy Begum (aka known as Poppy Jay) directed the documentary.

It features a mainly female cast of contributors, including writers, journalists, music industry figures and women rappers, including ’80s hip-hop artist Roxanne Shanté. The film, a press release says, “sets out to discover how Megan Thee Stallion – a battle rapper from Texas – and Cardi B – an ex-stripper and reality TV star – became two of the most famous women on the planet,” and asks “what ‘WAP’ tells us about the changing role and status of women over four decades of hip-hop culture.”

Other contributors alongside Roxanne Shanté include Nadia Rose, presenter Zeze Mills, author of ‘Miseducation: A Woman’s Guide To Hip-Hop’ Shanita Hubbard, and writer Julianne Escobedo Shephard.

The documentary airs on Channel 4 on Thursday, 25th November at 10pm GMT.

Megan Thee Stallion will soon feature on the soundtrack for the film ‘The Addams Family 2’.

In March, she won Best Rap Song at the delayed 2021 Grammy Awards.
