Mun Sing announce ‘Frolic’ EP on Illegal Data, shares single: Listen

Mun Sing has announced a new EP, ‘Frolic’, via his Illegal Data label,

Set for release on 7th February 2025, the EP follows the Bristol producer and live act’s 2023 debut album, ‘Inflatable Gravestone,’ released on Planet Mu.

According to a press release, the concept for ‘Frolic’ centres on indulgence and consequence, unfolding as a surreal, demented fairytale. At its heart is the character of the Scarecrow, described as a “boogeyman of indulgence,” representing the guilt and shadow of excess.  This concept-driven release draws inspiration from large-scale stadium pop concerts and pantomime-style audience interaction, diverging from the grief-inspired awkwardness of ‘Inflatable Gravestone.’

The first single, ‘Didn’t Need U Anyway’, featuring Katy Ketani, is accompanied by a music video and debuts Mun Sing’s new live show, where he embodies the Scarecrow character. Stream it below.

‘Frolic’ marks Mun Sing’s first release on his own Illegal Data, a label known for putting out boundary-pushing work from artists such as Sarahsson, Swan Meat and LCY. Mun Sing – formerly of Giant Swan – has also collaborated with artists including BABii, Iceboy Violet, and GAIKA, and was recently invited by Björk to perform with her in Reykjavik and New York. His upcoming live performances will feature the Scarecrow character, with shows planned across Asia, Australia, and Europe.

‘Frolic’ follows 2023’s ‘Inflatable Gravestone’, an album that explored themes of grief and spirituality inspired by the passing of his father. As DJ Mag reported last year, the LP drew on his father’s rehab journals and incorporated intimate recordings, blending jerky rhythms with reflective, downtempo tracks.

Pre-order ‘Frolic’ here and stream ‘Didn’t Need U Anyway’ below.
