Moor Mother has announced a new album, ‘Black Encyclopedia Of The Air’, which will land through ANTI- on 17th September.

The poet, musician, artist and activist — real name Camae Ayewa — has been inspired by ideas around memory, imprinting, and the future. Ayewa explained in an official statement that the first single, ‘Obsidian’, which has just been unveiled and features the rapper Pink Siifu, is a response to present dangers.

“Thinking about one’s proximity to violence. Thinking about violence in the home. Violence in communities,” she said.

‘Black Encyclopedia Of The Air’ was recorded at the artist’s home in March 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in the US, and was produced with the help of sound artist and producer Olof Melander. The LP features input from Lojii, Bfly, Elucid, Antonia Gabriela, and Yatta, with Black Quantum Futurism also credited — the literary and artistic collective Ayewa founded with Rasheedah Phillips.

Last month, Ninja Tune announced a new album from decade-spanning UK electronic artist The Bug was on its way, featuring a collaboration with Moor Mother. In September 2020, she unveiled ‘Circuit City’, an album and play focused on tenants of a fictional metropolis, dealing with race, sex, gender, ethnicity, and disability discrimination.
