Moog Announces Limited-Edition Minimoog Model D
Moog is releasing a limited-edition version of its classic Minimoog Model D. The 500-unit reissue is being rolled out in tribute to late Bob Moog and celebrates the technology and imagination of electronic musical instrument design. The Bob Moog Tribute Edition will be hand-built by the Moog Music team in North Carolina.
The new reissue comes in a bespoke quartersawn white oak cabinet with a custom Bob Moog Foundation decal on the back panel. The synth can also be zipped up in a semi-rigid travel case that’s custom-made for the Model D.
The original Minimoog Model D was released in 1970, with the final unit built in 1981. It went back into production in 2022. The Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D costs $3,999. Only 500 are due to be created worldwide.
In November, four rare Minimoog prototypes were exhibited at the Moogseum in Asheville as part of the weekend-long Minimoog Prototypes Exhibit, organised in collaboration with the Museum of Music Technology (MMT). A book diving into the impact and legacy of the Minimoog, featuring interviews with Dr Dre, Anne Dudley and Mac DeMarco, was also published in 2024.
