Listen to a previously unreleased Frankie Knuckles mix on Apple Music

Defected has shared a previously unreleased mix by Frankie Knuckles via Apple Music.

Clocking in at over two hours, the 26-track set was recorded by the late Chicago DJ in 2011, and was intended for release as a 2xCD, digital and vinyl compilation, titled ‘Frankie Knuckles In The House’. However, his health at the time meant that he couldn’t fully commit to promoting the project as much as he would have liked, so he requested that the release be paused.

The mix has now been made available for streaming exclusively on Apple Music to mark what would have been Frankie Knuckles’ birthday this Sunday (18th January). It’s been released in partnership with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, which supports initiatives across LGBTQIA+ communities and AIDS prevention.

Frederick Dunson, of The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, said: “As stewards of Frankie’s legacy, we are thrilled and deeply honoured to share this previously unreleased project with his legion of fans. It beautifully captures his quintessential Director’s Cut sound in 2011, which has become synonymous with his name, mixed in classical FK style!”

In addition to the never-before-heard mix being shared for streaming, Defected has also repressed its ‘House Masters: Frankie Knuckles‘ compilation due to overwhelming demand for the vinyl. Featuring extensive liner notes and photographs celebrating the life and legacy of the DJ and producer, the set includes various classic originals and remixes from across his discography.

A portion of proceeds from the vinyl and accompanying Frankie Knuckles official merch on Defected’s online store go to The Frankie Knuckles Foundation.
