Kevin Saunderson, DJ Minx and Dantiez share new e-Dancer track, ‘Detroit’: Listen

Kevin Saunderson and his son, Dantiez, have shared another new single as e-Dancer, titled ‘Detroit’. The new track also features Motor City legend and Women On Wax founder DJ Minx on vocals.

‘Detroit’ aligns three generations of Detroit techno on one record, celebrating the city’s techno heritage and the Black pioneers who wrote the blueprint.

DJ Minx, who recorded the spoken word element, said of the track: “Listen to the words and feel what they mean. This track is like an assignment. Everything I say on it, you can look up and find the history. Detroit is family. We’re close-knit, we protect our city. Black people started this music. We started jazz, we started Motown, we started techno, and the love for this city, for this music, never stops. I love my city.”

“It all started here,” Kevin Saunderson added. “People talk about Europe, and sure, that’s part of the story, but techno was named, born, and bred in Detroit. Without this city, without its people, it wouldn’t exist or sound like this. And now, the city has its anthem.”

“Detroit’s musical history is deep,” Dantiez continued. “It’s on us to carry that forward and show love to those who paved the way. I wanted to pay my respects to the people I’ve looked up to, who’ve helped shape my career. Turning that into a track that can also educate the next generation, that’s special.”

This is the first new e-Dancer single since Saunderson and son released the eponymous e-Dancer album in June, which featured previously released singles ‘Melodica’ and ‘Emotions‘.  The release was the first album of entirely original material to arrive under the moniker in 25 years, and was billed as a sequel to the first e-Dancer LP, ‘Heavenly’. Revisit DJ Mag’s 2021 interview with Saunderson about his initial return to the project, here

Earlier this month, New York club Paragon was able to reopen thanks to a “generous lifeline” from Kevin Saunderson.
