Ikari – When It’s Over EP

On previous releases like 2023’s ‘Bystanders Street Dispute’, Barcelona-based producer Ikari turned out techno tracks that were solid enough but lacking a certain something to make them special. Well he’s found a ‘thing’ for the latest EP. ‘Mitsubishi Fuso’ is a simple earworm bassline that wriggles all the way down to your waist, while ‘Thermometer’ is a techno corkscrew, with weird noises twisted from a rigid beat. Then there’s ‘Falling Knives’, which clanks and gurgles sound as if Ellen Allien were doing some plumbing. Closing things out is the title track — one for those 4am moments that test who’s still got legs left for the long-haul.
