Hannah Laing opens community DJ and production hub in Dundee, doof Studios
Hannah Laing has opened a community DJ and production hub in her hometown of Dundee, Scotland.
doof Studios is located inside a former changing room at Street Soccer’s Change Centre, and is operated by Turn The Tables. The charity has a long history of providing DJ training for vulnerable people.
Laing’s record label, doof, and offshoot festival, doof In The Park, are also supporting the project, which the trance, techno and hard house selector has developed from idea to realisation.
Focused on nurturing new young talent in the city, the operation offers participants a chance to use professional-standard DJ equipment and a production studio. It also gives Turn the Tables a permanent base in the area. Lessons have already begun, with the first intake of students taking part in structured workshops over recent weeks.
“I’m truly proud to help bring doof Studios to life. Dundee has given me so much, and giving back in a meaningful way has always been close to my heart. This studio isn’t just about music, it’s about opportunity,” said Laing. “It puts world class facilities in reach for people right here at home, something I would have loved when I was coming up and travelling hours just to access.”
“This project represents everything Turn The Tables stands for,” added Robbie Tolson, Founder of Turn The Tables. “It started with music on the sidelines of the Homeless World Cup and has grown into a permanent community music hub for Dundee. Street Soccer have used football to change lives for decades, and we’ve been very inspired by their work and following in their footsteps.”
Coinciding with the DJ and production facility opening, Laing has unveiled a video to accompany her most recent single, ‘Have You Ever Loved (Ellie)’. The emotional track was made in honour of the artist’s best friend, who tragically died in July this year. It features vocals by Hannah Boleyn, and follows summer’s ‘Bounce’ EP.
