groundsound release new album, ‘Working Progress’, on Equiknoxx Music: Listen

groundsound have unveiled a new album for Equiknoxx Music.

Out now, ‘Working Progress’ is a one-hour dive into “dub, broken beats,” and “futurist dancehall” that brings “an immersive natural landscape to life,” with wind, whispers, and water featured on the project.

The duo of groundsound is a “message-driven, Afrofuturist partnership” between Gavsborg from Equiknoxx and word artist and cultural analyst Riddim Writer, with the pair first collaborating in 2019.

‘Working Progress’ is their first full-length and what Riddim Writer describes as “broken beats meets black space, memory meets magic, and decolonial meets dub. Each track is an invitation to skank, spin, and slip with us through time.”

Vocalists featured on the album include Gavin Blair, Isis Semaj-Hall, Olivia Wilmot, and others while musicians include guitarist Courtland White and Ordean Francis on drums.

‘Working Progess’ follows the release of the debut vocal album from Gavsborg under the new alias, unkle G, in 2023 along with his new tape label, Cassette Blair.

In 2022, Equinknoxx contributed to London label 404 eros’ mixtape series dedicated to Notting Hill Carnival’s “lost years” while back in 2021, Jamaican vocalist Shanique Marie, who is part of the Equiknoxx collective, dropped her own debut album ‘Gigi’s House’.
