Gorillaz release new album, ‘The Mountain’: Listen

Gorillaz have released their ninth studio album, ‘The Mountain’. You can listen to it below.

Originally announced last September, the 15-track record marks the first release on the group’s KONG label. It features a wide range of collaborators, from Yasiin Bey and Omar Souleyman to Johnny Marr, Bizarrap and Gruff Rhys, as well as posthumous contributions from Tony Allen, Bobby Womack, Dennis Hopper, Mark E. Smith, Proof and Dave Jolicoeur.

Serving as the follow-up to Gorillaz’ 2023 LP, ‘Cracker Island’, ‘The Mountain’ was recorded mainly in London and Devon, as well as in various locations across India, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan and Varanasi. The album also features artists performing in five languages: Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish and Yoruba.

The animated outfit — led by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett — will head out on a tour of the UK and Ireland in support of ‘The Mountain’, kicking off at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena on 21st March. Their first headline stadium show will follow at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 20th June. Tickets and full tour information can be found here.

Earlier this week, Gorillaz shared an animated short film based on the new album, titled The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God.

Last summer, the group performed a selection of their albums live in full at London’s Copper Box Arena. You can watch the full performance of their debut album here.
