Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood’ riff is an Omnichord preset, Damon Albarn reveals: Watch

Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn has revealed that the lead piano riff for the group’s 2001 hit single ‘Clint Eastwood’ was created using a preset on a Suzuki Omnichord.

Speaking with Zane Lowe as part of a video interview for Apple Music, Albarn said the riff came from the ‘Rock One’ preset on the musical instrument, with the track’s riff and backing drums playing from the Omnichord at the press of one button during their chat.

Albarn also talks viewers through a number of other pieces of musical equipment that have been important to his work with Gorillaz and Blur going back the past few decades, with the voice modulator Boss VT-1, and a handheld Yamaha QY10 both also making an appearance.

In addition to showing Lowe some rare instruments that he has made use of in his music, he also touches on his collaborative work and studio sessions with the likes of Grace Jones, Erykah Badu and Lou Reed.

You can watch the video interview in full below.

Last week, Albarn released his eighth studio album as part of Gorillaz, ‘Cracker Island’, with the band set to follow its release up with an appearance at this year’s Coachella in April.
