Glasgow’s Sub Club launches archival exhibition celebrating three decades
Glasgow clubbing institution Sub Club has launched a new archival exhibition.
The retrospective exhibit, titled Sub Club x Alchemy: A Club Culture Retrospective, celebrates the club’s three-decade history, making it the longest-running club in Scotland.
The exhibition opened at Glasgow gallery The Alchemy Experiment on 9th September and runs through to 21st September.
Sub Club x Alchemy: A Club Culture Retrospective brings together over 30 years of photos, videos, posters, and flyers to tell the story of the club and its role in putting Scottish culture on the global stage.
The venue wrote in a statement: “This exhibition offers a glimpse into the art, people, and cultural influence that have defined Sub Club’s longstanding legacy. More than a look back, it is a celebration of the visual language that continues to inspire clubgoers; from Glasgow to the world.”
Sub Club will celebrate the new exhibit with two separate events: a Preview Night on 19th September featuring The Alchemy Experiment’s resident DJs, and a Subculture day party on 20th September with CARISTA and Sub Club’s resident DJs.
Separately, this month will also see Sub Club host sets from DJ Fart In The Club (19th September), Shanti Celeste (26th September), and Avalon Emerson (4th October).
Sub Club has been host to world-renowned club nights since it opened its doors in 1987, including its flagship Subculture party, which has been running since 1990, as well as Optimo (Espacio), which ran every Saturday from 1997 to 2010.
