Everything But The Girl announce Best Of compilation

Everything But The Girl have announced a new retrospective compilation. ‘The Best of Everything But The Girl’ will arrive on 14th November via band member Ben Watt’s Buzzin’Fly label and Chrysalis.

The compilation album will feature 16 tracks, reflecting the duo’s journey from guitar-led acoustic jazz-folk to alternative electronica and dance, a trajectory that culminated to some of the most recognisable remixes of the 1990s.

Taking music from a 40 year period, the track list includes 2023’s single ‘Nothing Left To Lose’, taken from their most recent studio album, ‘Fuse‘, and club anthems like Todd Terry’s legendary 1994 remix of ‘Missing’. UK Top 10 single ‘Walking Wounded’ also features, as well as tracks like ‘Before Today’ and ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It’. Their cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Only Living Boy In New York’ also features.

“We always liked albums that had a fast side and a slow side,” said vocalist Tracey Thorn. “So we thought we’d start with the bangers and wind down with the ballads.”

“It also makes the album run backwards in time,” added Ben Watt. “It gives you a sense of clubland back to bedsit, a journey that to us feels very real. And at the end, we pair the modern day — ‘Run a Red Light’ — with how we started — ‘Night and Day’.”

Earlier this year, Everything But The Girl returned to the live stage for the first time in 25 years, with a string of acoustic dates in London’s Moth Club.
