Electronic music album for babies to “rave and sleep to” released: Listen

A new electronic music album featuring sounds for babies to “rave and sleep to” has been released.

Graham Smyth’s self-released eight-track record was produced after he researched the effects of certain sounds and frequencies on young children’s development. The idea for it came from him composing lullabies on his family piano and then trying to recreate them on a toy piano and kalimba.

In making the record, Smyth also consulted with child psychologists and then ultimately turned to ambient producer Gareth Quinn Redmond to bring the project to life.

The album was inspired by the arrival of Smyth’s nephew, and it’s aimed at parents who want to share their love of music with their children.

Speaking to District Magazine, Smyth said: “When I was first creating songs for this project it was my intention to have a fast-paced ravey version of a song and a stretched-out sleepy version of it as well. I was thinking that it could be an EP of rave cuts on one side and chill-out tracks on the other.

“It was only when I asked ambient producer Gareth Quinn Redmond to come onboard that the idea of creating a full album came up. He suggested having an ambient track to build up into the rave and another wind down piece to bring us into sleep mode. We started working on it and it just made perfect sense.”

You can listen to the full album below, and purchase it on Bandcamp.

Last year, a baby alphabet book, The A-Z of electronic, house and techno music, was released.
