Dopplereffekt – Metasymmetry
Once half of legendary electro duo Drexciya, Gerald Donald has made many classics with projects like Japanese Telecom, Arpanet and Xor Gate. Dopplereffekt is the longest-running of these, a collaboration with Michaela To-Nhan Barthel. They’ve never released on Tresor before, but ‘Metasymmetry’ is a fitting debut. Opener ‘Time Modulation-Graviton Pulse’ is a full-pelt techno missive, all heavy four-four kicks, spidering metallic FX and wormhole riffs. ‘Multiverse Wavefunction’ is a gorgeous ambient piece with synths and arps that place you on the observation deck of a huge spacecraft. ‘Collapse Of Simultaneity’ is more familiar electro-techno terrain, and ‘Olbers Paradox’ is another beatless, weightless epic with what sounds like very distant vocals. If this is the precursor to an album, it’s going to be something special.
