DJ Screw’s Original Catalogue Arrives on Streaming Platforms

The original production catalogue of the late hip-hop pioneer DJ Screw is finally making its way to major streaming platforms. This long-awaited move marks a significant moment for fans of the Houston legend, whose work has historically been confined to cassette rips and unofficial uploads.

Beginning today, Friday, 29th May, the estate of the late artist has launched ‘Originals Vol. 1’. This release serves as the start of a weekly rollout that will continue through the end of June, bringing a wealth of classic material to a global audience for the first time in an official capacity.

“This is for the fans who’ve always known and for those discovering him now,” the DJ Screw Estate stated. “From a local legend to a global icon, his catalogue will now be accessible everywhere keeping his legacy alive one stream at a time.”

Born Robert Earl Davis Jr., DJ Screw fundamentally reshaped the landscape of Houston hip-hop during the 1990s. He is best remembered for pioneering the “chopped-and-screwed” technique, a signature style defined by slowed-down records and intricate, chopped vocal loops. As the leader of the Screwed Up Click, which included notable artists such as Big Hawk, Big Moe, and Lil’ Flip, he created a sound that would influence generations of producers and DJs.

Among his most celebrated contributions to music history are the 1996 release ‘3 ‘N the Mornin’ (Part Two)’ and the legendary ‘June 27th Freestyle’. Despite his passing in 2000 at the age of 29, his influence remains profound, continuing to permeate modern electronic music and hip-hop production.
