DJ Absolutely Shit – Synthetic Stupid
Forged in DIY Manchester, since pre-pandemic DJ Absolutely Shit have been building a cult following with stylistically sprawling marathon sets and unapologetically up front releases. Also known as Il Bosco and Metrodome, the pair were already highly respected individually, so this partnership was always destined for greatness. The duo’s second LP is colourful as ever. Warmth and bounce pervade. Infectiously swinging percussion gives way to sawtooth hoovers (‘8bit Bash’), old school-meets-glittering cosmic synth (‘Warning’), bass rumbles and pitched warbles marry classic piano house riffs (‘50 Inch Subwoofer feat. Yussuf Maleem’), and UK soundsystem culture is duly celebrated (‘Ale’d Up ’n’ Dat ft. Sl8r’). Inimitable, smile-inducing, ‘Synthetic Stupidity’ feels like British rave tweaking acid, electro-hip hop sharing doves with Italo, while garage and breaks mess about with a sampler in the corner.
