DC-10 Ibiza forced to shut garden stage due to noise restrictions

DC-10 Ibiza has been forced to shut its garden stage due to noise restrictions put in place by local authorities.

“We are unfortunately forced to turn off the music in the garden after the latest requests of the municipality of St. Joseph to reduce the decibels to 75, which is obviously unacceptable. This is an impossible condition for artists to perform”, wrote the famed Ibiza club on Instagram today (25th July).

According to local newspaper Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, a crackdown on incidences of excessive noise is currently sweeping the island. The local police of Sant Josep have carried out 22 temporary shutdowns of music equipment so far this year, reviewing 42 premises in the municipality, with fines ranging between 600 euros to 300,000 euros, depending on the seriousness of the offence.

“Facing the summer, what we do is try to control, as far as possible, the coexistence between neighbours, tourism and the different activities,” said deputy mayor Pilar Ribas.

Ibiza clubs have come under increasing pressure from local authorities in recent years to reduce noise on the island, with decibel restrictions being implemented in venues in San Antonio in October 2017 and threats to close down any venue that exceeds sound limits.

It’s not yet known when the garden will re-open but DC-10 will continue to host music in the terrace and main room, with the Solid Grooves takeover happening on Thursday.

DC-10 was forced to cancel last week’s Carl Cox Invites event  ‘due to circumstances outside of their control’ but will return tomorrow (26th July) with Cox playing B2B with Laurent Garnier all night long in the terrace. The main room will be soundtracked by Awesome Soundwave’s live electronic line-up.

Next week, Amelie Lens will launch her first-ever Ibiza residency at DC-10. Taking place every Wednesday throughout August, the EXHALE party series will feature sets from Lens, Helena Hauff, Dax J, and Ellen Allien in the main room.
