DAYTIMERS announces simultaneous parties in eight global cities to celebrate fifth anniversary
DAYTIMERS have announced simultaneous parties in eight cities across the world to mark the collective’s fifth birthday on Saturday 30th August.
Dubbed DAYTIMERS WORLD, the London-based crew, who spotlight music, culture and art from South Asia and its diaspora, will run three events in the UK to celebrate the anniversary, working alongside local collectives in the process. These includes Night Tales Loft in London, The DBA in Manchester with Global Bass Union, and Wiper & True Brewery in Bristol alongside RepresentAsian.
“We want to show that DAYTIMERS is part of a global movement amongst diasporic South Asians that are connecting in solidarity to uplift each other,” said DAYTIMERS manager, Rosh. “It’s a celebration of this phenomenon.”
In Europe, the Berlin radio station and bar Refuge Worldwide will broadcast an 11-hour showcase. Meanwhile, live music and DJ sets will also be held at Zurich space mikro.
A new DAYTIMERS chapter will be launched in New York on the day, with a session at Mood Ring. Toronto’s Last Call Cocktail Club will host a programme put together by Risky Business, AJA Brisky and Mrii. Finally, Australia-wide South Asian creative collective Kerfew will run an event at Section 8, Melbourne.
“[We are] super excited to be a part of DAYTIMERS WORLD! We’re all about connecting with a global community of creatives who push boundaries, celebrate diversity, and redefine what it means to belong. Proud to join this movement and bring our sound to the world stage,” said a spokesperson for Risky Business.
The marathon celebrations are the latest in a string of seminal moments for the founding members this year. Recent months have seen them given a four-night residency at The Jazz Cafe and Tate Modern Lates event in London, takeover multiple stages at Glastonbury, and release their debut album via SONY Music India. Meanwhile, arts and culture sub-brand Mehfil has showcased at prominent venues including Royal Albert Hall.
