Chunk DAW: A New Music-Making Video Game Teased by Developer
A new music-making video game that lets you save and export your music, titled Chunk DAW, is currently in development. The project is the brainchild of producer, engineer, and graphic designer sila mack, and it introduces a fresh, interactive approach to digital audio workstations.
The game utilizes a Minecraft-styled modular grid system, which comprises sound-carrying blocks that users can load and loop next to each other to construct a sequence. This tactile interface allows for intuitive composition, where players can manipulate the mixing process to adjust volume, BPM, and apply further modifications to the individual chunks. With hundreds of different materials available for the blocks, the creative possibilities for sound design appear vast.

Chunk DAW is currently in open beta, and those interested in testing the software can do so by joining sila mack’s Discord channel. The intersection of gaming and music production continues to evolve, following trends seen in other media. Last year, Classic FM launched its new video game music radio show, Next Level, hosted by YouTuber Daniel Middleton—aka DanTDM—which has explored iconic soundtracks such as The Legend of Zelda and Minecraft.
Furthermore, 2025 saw the release of the new Kong Studios online video game by Gorillaz, which invites fans to explore the virtual spaces of band members 2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel, building upon the online world first established by the group in 1998.
