Chaka Khan, Fela Kuti and Whitney Houston to receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement awards

Chaka Khan, Fela Kuti and Whitney Houston are among a number of artists who are set to be recognised with Grammy Lifetime Achievement awards.

Cher, Paul Simon and Latin rock artist Carlos Santana will also receive awards for their music, while lyricist Bernie Taupin, record executive Sylvia Rhone and Latin jazz musician Eddie Palmieri – who passed away in August – will be honoured with the Trustees Award. Classical composer John Chowning will receive the Technical Grammy Award.

The awards will be presented at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on 31st January, the night before the main Grammys ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The Lifetime Achievement award is given to performers who, during their lifetimes, made “creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording”. Previous recipients have included Prince, Donna Summer and N.W.A..

Skrillex, Fred again.. and PinkPantheress were among the dance/electronic nominees for next year’s main Grammys ceremony, while Kendrick Lamar leads the way for total nominations having received nods in nine different categories.
