Brooklyn Mirage operator Avant Gardner files for bankruptcy amid ongoing reopening delays

Avant Gardner, which owns the still-closed Brooklyn Mirage, has filed for bankruptcy.

The multi-venue New York City nightclub and event space at 140 Stewart Ave, which also houses Great Hall and Kings Hall, voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Billboard reports. “The decision to file for Chapter 11 relief follows several months of financial distress, culminating with Avant Gardner being unable to open its newly constructed Mirage event space for the 2025 season,” Avant Gardener LLC said in a statement.

Kings Hall and Great Hall will stay open throughout the bankruptcy process, while Brooklyn Mirage’s continuously postponed reopening is likely indefinite. In a statement cancelling her scheduled appearance at the venue on 22nd August, Nora En Pure wrote: “As many of you know, Brooklyn Mirage won’t be opening this summer.”

Avant Gardner former CEO Josh Wyatt was “fired” this past May, when Brooklyn Mirage was initially planned to reopen following renovations that began early this year. He was replaced by Avant Gardner’s non-executive chair Gary Richards after multiple rounds of last-minute postponements that month, resulting in rescheduling around key event weekends like Memorial Day. 

“Two months ago I was brought in as CEO to rebuild the company’s culture and turn the business around,” Richard said in a statement to Billboard. “I believe this Chapter 11 restructuring is the most viable path forward — it will allow us to stabilize Avant Gardner and focus on building for the future.”

Avant Gardener and Brooklyn Mirage were voted the No. 17 top club in the world in DJ Mag’s 2025 poll.
