Bristol’s Noods Radio HQ, Mickey Zoggs, facing eviction after mortgage falls through

Mickey Zoggs, the Bristol pub that is home to community radio station Noods, has shared an update on the situation surrounding its current tenancy.

After having secured a mortgage offer with a private investor to purchase its current Surrey Street building, the deal has now fallen through and the group behind it are unsure whether they will be able to stay. As things currently stand, the last day that Mickey Zoggs will be open is on Sunday, 17th November.

A statement posted to its Instagram page read: “We were handed our eviction notice in May with the deadline to be out of the building by the 20th November unless we were able to buy the property.

“It looked as though things were promising as we’d received a mortgage offer with a private investor to make up the rest of the money needed to secure the mortgage, and the contracts for the sale of the building had been drawn up,” it continued. “However, last week our mortgage fell through, and we’re unsure now whether or not our lease will be extended this close to the end of the tenancy.”

In May, after first being served the eviction notice, Mickey Zoggs launched a fundraising campaign to raise the money needed to purchase its home. It included ‘Miracle on Surrey Street’, a 23-track compilation from friends of the venue that featured the likes of Low End Activist, Richie Culver, Yokel and aircode.

Since launching in 2015, Noods Radio has become an important part of Bristol’s arts and music community, running programmes that include mentoring young creatives and  a course aimed at introducing women and non-binary people to radio broadcasting.
