Björk Opens Immersive ‘Echolalia’ Exhibition at National Gallery of Iceland

The visionary artist Björk has officially opened her latest multidisciplinary exhibition, Echolalia, at the National Gallery of Iceland. Running from 31st May through 20th September, the exhibition offers an intimate look into the artist’s creative process, centering on three new theatrical musical works alongside reimagined tracks from her acclaimed album, Fossora.

The exhibition also provides a glimpse into the future, showcasing new music and visuals from an upcoming record currently slated for release by the end of 2027. Fans can already catch a preview of the new track, ‘Nerve Bloom’, as part of the installation.

Echolalia shares its name with an upcoming solar eclipse rave scheduled for this August, which will feature performances by Arca, Sideproject, and Ronja Jóhannsdóttir. Addressing fan speculation, the artist clarified via Instagram that ‘Echolalia’ is an umbrella title for her current projects rather than the name of her next studio album.

“I always wanted to put ‘Ancestress’ and ‘Sorrowful Soil’ into a room, a spatial situation,” the artist explained. “Those songs didn’t seem like live songs, the kind best experienced in private with many speakers.” The exhibition features these tracks enhanced by the visuals of Andy Huang and Viðar Logi, alongside re-recorded choral arrangements by the Hamrahlíð choir, conducted by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir.

In addition to the main exhibition, the National Gallery of Iceland is hosting Metamorphlings, a companion exhibition by longtime collaborator James Merry. The artist has remained active on the global stage, having recently performed ‘Berghain’ alongside Rosalía at the 2026 BRIT Awards and continuing to advocate for Greenland’s independence following political tensions involving Donald Trump.
