Björk announces ‘Cornucopia’ concert film livestream this week
Björk has announced that a livestream of her ‘Cornucopia’ concert film will debut on Apple TV+ later this week.
An hour-long version of the digitally animated film will air on the streaming platform this Friday (24th January) at 7 PM (PT), or 3 AM on Saturday morning in the UK. The performance will form part of the Apple Music Live series, with the feature length version of the film coming to theatres later in the year. Check out a teaser trailer here.
Recorded during the Lisbon stop on her ‘Cornucopia’ world tour, the concert is described as a “one of a kind digitally animated show with moving curtains and a modern lanterna magica for live music”, where “21st-century VR visuals are brought into a 19th-century theatre.”
The climate-inspired tour ran from May 2019 to December 2023, with dates in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia for a total of 45 shows. It supported the Icelandic artist’s albums ‘Utopia’, released in 2017, and ‘Fossora’, which arrived in 2022.
“i am so thrilled to share an hour excerpt of the Cornucopia concert film here with you online. the full version will be played later in theatres,” Björk shared in a recent Instagram post. “this has been a long journey with hundreds of people helping out. i am so beyond enormously grateful to every single one of them.”
“i feel the modern concert film is a matriarchially friendly construct, welcomed in the current climate. where female musicians can share their worlds uncorrupted…” she continued. “in cornucopia, i was joined by musical director and multi instrumentalist bergur þórisson, percussionist manu delago, flute septet Viibra, harpist katie buckley and the hamrahlid choir.”
To promote the ‘Cornucopia’ premiere, Björk sat down for an interview with Apple’s Zane Lowe, billed as her first on-camera interview in a decade. The interview premiered on Thursday 23rd January – you can watch it back here.
