A new multi-media exhibition will explore Coventry’s house music scene.

Set to take place at a secret location in the city across 11th-28th November, House is a Feeling is an immersive, multi-sensory exhibition that traces before, during and after the arrival of house music and ecstasy in the city, from 1985 to 1993.

Presented in the form of a series of corridors and curated themed rooms, the exhibition – which is produced Adi Dowling of Daylight Robbery in collaboration with artists, DJs and those involved in the scene from the very beginning – takes in everything from transformational theatre and audio documentaries, to artist moving image and laser projections.

At the heart of House is a Feeling is its exploration of the impact and legacy of electronic dance music and emerging youth cultures at a time of heightened social injustice, racism and violence. The exhibition includes new works including ‘No Black in the Union Jack’, ‘Fractured City’, ‘Sound System Coventry’, ‘Racism’ and ‘Graffiti’.

“This is a historical documentation of one of the most important cultural movements of the 20th century and maps the journey of a youth revolution that took over the world,” says Dowling. “The amazing thing was this was brought together by black, brown and white street kids who had nothing but each other.”

Tickets for the exhibition can be bought here, priced £6 (Fridays and Saturdays) and pay what you wish (Thursdays and Sundays).
