Amnesia Ibiza announces 50th anniversary celebrations for 2026
Amnesia Ibiza will be celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout 2026.
Although the iconic White Isle club is keeping specifics close to its chest for now, a spokesperson has confirmed it will mark the half-centenary over the course of this year, peaking in summer, with a series of special events, cultural collaborations and guest-curated line-ups.
“It’s a year-long journey to celebrate our history; born on the dancefloor, shaped by music, united by freedom,” an Instagram post by Amnesia read. “Join us as we honor the past, embrace the now, and step into what’s ahead. From Ibiza to the world: a living legacy. A celebration you won’t forget.”
The venue first opened its doors in 1976 and has been instrumental in nurturing and developing the sound and energy of the island’s nightlife ever since. This is thanks in part to the late DJ Alfredo, who is largely credited with pioneering what later became known as Balearic beat.
Prior to the club’s opening, the building that houses Amnesia was a traditional Spanish country house, or finca, which had been in the same family for five generations. After they sold the property it was later leased to a philosopher from Madrid, Antonio Escohotado, who first set up a discotheque at the address with Manolo Sáenz de Heredia, who came up with the name. Entry was around €1.75 and included a soft drink or beer.
During the 1980s, Amnesia began to focus on then-nascent house and techno genres, promoting a freestyle approach to mixing records, and in the process garnered a reputation for hedonism and parties that ran all night and into the afternoon. The following decade saw international partnerships cemented, predominantly with UK promoters, while Liverpool super club Cream took ownership of the business, shaping it into the current iteration.
Last season saw residencies with East End Dubs and Ultra’s techno session Resistance, alongside in-house institutions Amnesia Presents and Pyramid.
