Akai announces MPC Live III standalone unit
Akai Professional is releasing a new standalone MPC called Live III.
Running on the latest MPC3 OS and a processor four times more powerful than its predecessor, the MPC Live II (which added built-in speakers), the MPC Live III adds new 3D sensing technology to the iconic 16-pad multicolour grid.
In addition, it’s fitted with a built-in “high-quality” studio mic “for field recording, vocal takes and quick sampling”, and promises all the necessary connectivity, including WiFi and Bluetooth and a USB-C port.
The modern standalone MPC Live model was first rolled out in 2017 and updated as the MPC Live II in 2020. The line forgoes the need for a computer as they’re “designed for the stage”.
The MPC Live III is priced at $1,699 USD / €1,649.99 / £1,399.99. Find out more here.
At the start of the year, Native Instruments (NI) introduced plug-in support for various third-party brands, including users of Akai Pro, to expand Native Kontrol Standard (NKS) to multiple new hardware units.
Last year, Akai unveiled a significant update to its classic MPC range of samplers, MPC Stems, a stem separation feature developed with Berlin’s zPlane and promising “superior” sound quality.
