Glastonbury announces virtual festival this week

News

Glastonbury has announced the schedule for Glastonbury Experience virtual festival.

Kicking on Thursday 25th June, Glastonbury Experience is set to be broadcast across the weekend through Sunday, and includes a programme of classic performances recorded at previous Glastonbury editions, as well as live sets on the festival’s website.

The festival begins at 10PM on Thursday on the BBC with Julien Temple’s 2006 documentary about Glastonbury, featuring archive footage and performances from David Bowie, Morrissey and Radiohead. The documentary will be followed with Elbow and Beyoncé’s Pyramid stage headline sets from previous editions of the festival.

Across the weekend, there will also be archive footage of performances from Amy Winehouse, The Chemical Brothers, and Jay-Z, and the Glastonbury website will feature playlists and videos, plus live-streamed DJ sets from A Guy Called Gerald, Afterlife, Carl Cox, and Solardo, and many more.

The live-streamed DJ sets will be available to watch at virtual “stages”, which includes Glastonbury favourites The Glade and The Common.

Organisers Michael & Emily Eavis announced earlier this year that the Worthy Farm event would no longer go ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic, a particularly painful decision considering this year marks its 50th anniversary.
